Bottle Warmers
There are various debates about the need for bottle warmers with some babies being perfectly happy to accept room temperature feeds. However, if you have expressed milk or using formula cartons and stored it in the fridge you may feel it is a little cold for baby. The traditional heating method would be to put the sealed feed into a bowl of hot water for a few minutes and then test the temperature by touch. The modern bottle and food warmers that we offer are based on a similar concept having an internal void where you put the item and then surround with water, which on closing the lid warms up and creates steam to gently but quickly warm the feed to your desired temperature (no guessing required). Best of all you can insert feed from various starting temperatures (even frozen pre-made food). In addition, you might like to look at brands Tommee Tippee and Yoomi who have both used technology to specifically address warming up milk while out and about.
So do you need to buy a bottle warmer? Did your parents use one or did they just put the bottle under their armpit for a few minutes? That doesn’t sound too glamorous but in reality when manufacturer’s talk about heating to the ‘right temperature’ they mean 37’C which is about your body temperature and what baby is used to receiving Mummy’s milk naturally at! If you’re not keen on the old fashioned way we have some great gadgets from Tommee Tippee, Philips Avent, Beaba and Baby Chef that warm feeds evenly to body temperature. It is not recommended that you use a microwave for baby feed with authorities warning that they can create heat spots that could scold baby and also destroy vital nutrient value. The type that you go for might reflect your daily routine, needs and budget. For example Tommee Tippee has both a portable bottle warmer (no plugs) and an electric one for use in the home for both milk and food. Philips Avent have two options with the higher price point model being more technology led needing less input from you on heating time. We also have a unique gentle ‘steam warming’ system by Dr Brown that contains an adjustable internal basket to heat different sized bottles. Particularly useful if you have more than one child or want to heat feed and food together is the Double Duty bottle warmer by Baby Chef that has 2 stations within it achieving double output in the same time. Our most expensive model is by the stylish French brand Beaba that not only heats and sterilisers bottles but also make a body temperature feed in just 30secs at the touch of a button! Each of our models offers various benefits, uses and of course price points so please have a read and find the one that suits you best.
