The History Behind East Coast
East Coast was founded as a family business in a market town in Norfolk in 1960, originally as a manufacturer of high frequency welded plastic inflatable's and rain coats. In 1965 the company diversified into nursery products which led to the acquisition of a wood factory to manufacture cots, highchairs and moses basket stands in cooperation with the baby goods retailer Mothercare.
Today The East Coast Group, with 150,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space, comprises of two main divisions of which the nursery division is now the largest part and the fastest growing sector.
Whilst the company continues to manufacture high frequency welded baby changing mats, mattresses and highchair seats in the factory, the largest part of the business comes from the design and distribution of nursery furniture, nursery accessories, bedding and dining products, some of which are distributed under the East Coast Nursery brand and some of which are distributed as branded products through leading nursery retailers.
By having such an extensive range of nursery products the company has dedicated time and effort in developing a global sourcing policy and works with a variety of suppliers worldwide. This includes Portugal, China and Vietnam where the company has set-up an office. The office opened in 2006 to manage the quality control of products being manufactured and employs 4 members of staff speaking Taiwanese, Vietnamese and English.
Accredited with the ISO9001, East Coast has very high ethical values. All of the wood used for nursery furniture and wooden toys come from sustainable sources, and all overseas factories that the company works with are asked to sign ethical agreements particular to the country concerned.
For more than ten years East Coast has worked in co-operation with Disney and holds the license for Winnie The Pooh and Fisher Price. The Offices are based in the North West of England a traditional place for design, development and Manufacturing of Textile products.
