A static baby station is basically a seat in a frame where your baby can sit or bounce and play with toys and is often considered a safe alternative to a baby walker where baby can move around.

If you don’t like the idea of a baby walker but would like your baby to have a new and potentially exciting play place in your home, then you should opt for this kind of stationary baby play station or static exerciser. These have a similar design to baby walkers but don’t have wheels, instead your baby sits and swivels around.

Baby stations often feature a tray to hold a variety of small toys to keep baby stimulated and entertained and to encourage hand eye coordination. Although they don’t provide the same experience as a baby walker, the fun for your baby comes from pushing with his or her legs to spin the seating area round or rock to and fro.

Babies placed in baby stations must be supervised at all times, especially near stairs. They can be a great deal of fun for babies and offer parents a bit of freedom to accomplish household chores while keeping an eye on their babies, but they must not be used as a babysitter.

Play is absolutely necessary for developement. Play is crucial for your child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. It's your child's way of learning about his body and the world, and he'll use all five senses to do it, especially in the first year. What does this feel like when I touch it? What does this sound like when I squeeze it? What will happen if I push this or pull that? Crawl over there? Pull myself up on this? Exploration is the heart of play, and in your child's mind any experiment counts, even hurling a bowl of cereal off the highchair tray. Development experts are fond of saying that play is the work of children (and cleaning up after play seems to be the work of parents).

As your child moves into the toddler years, his play will become more imaginative and complex. Through play, he'll exercise key skills and qualities, such as independence, creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving. It can also be an important place to explore feelings and values and develop social skills. Long before your child feels comfortable sharing his favorite toy with his sister, he may offer it to a doll. His first spontaneous "please" and "thank you" may slip out at an imaginary tea party. And what parent can resist wasting a perfectly good bandage the first time her child says his teddy got hurt?

I got this after seeing a friend's baby enjoying himself. As a childminder I am now enjoying watching two little ones aged 6m and 10m have a wail of a time. They'll either play with the toys or simply enjoy bouncing up and down. If if the right mood they'll happily sit in it for an hour or more, but usually at least 20 minutes. A great find and hours of fun for all!
